In 1994, Marcia G. Yerman was one of four artists commissioned to create an original two-dimensional piece of artwork for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Arts for Transit public art program. At that time, artists were asked to portray a specific New York City neighborhood. Ms. Yerman chose the Flower District.

The image was painted in the medium of gouache. The work was reproduced as a run of 4,000 posters, and was seen throughout the transit system for a duration of three months. In March of 1999, an exhibition was mounted to present the Metropolitan Transit Authority's entire original poster artwork collection to the public.
